Earlier today, the Black music world was rocked. Beloved singer and trailblazer Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park home in Minnesota. The news was confirmed by his publicist to the Associated Press and then reported on my TMZ. Although an official cause of death has yet to be released, it is reported that the 57-year-old legend battled a bad case of the flu at the time. Since the news broke, there have been a slew of obituaries written. Meanwhile, artists like Missy Elliot and Wyclef Jean, who were inspired by Prince’s music took to Twitter to express their grief. So in honor of an artist that will go down in history, here are ten Prince songs to dance to, mourn to, and remember the Purple Rain that was.
1. “I Would Die 4 U”
2. “When Doves Cry”
3. “Let’s Go Crazy”
4. “Kiss”
5. “Little Red Corvette”
6. “1999”
7. “I Wanna Be Your Lover”
8. “She’s Always in My Hair”
9. “Cream”
